The project concerns the improvement of the ways of protection, management and utilization of important biodiversity ecosystems in PIN through the development of digital services. The individual objectives of the project can be summarized as follows:
- Promotion and protection of the natural landscape of the Ionian, the sustainable development and the strengthening of the income of the population of the islands. In the context of this proposal, the Ionian University, through the Departments of Informatics and Environment, will lead the effort and will propose actions to promote, inform and disseminate information and knowledge, as well as awareness on biodiversity issues within the PIN.
- Implementation of an original and standard digital platform that will include information on all the ecosystems of the Ionian Islands through appropriate promotion tools adapted to the specific characteristics of the protected areas in question.
- Utilization of crowd-sourcing technologies and methodologies in order to approach local communities and visitors, as well as to shape actions accordingly.
- Study of methods for smooth and lifelong integration of the natural object in the wider tourist exploitation and tourist flow, with emphasis on both the sensitization of the latter, as well as the developmental character of the local communities.
- Production of an improved digital product in order to promote PIN as an important pole of attraction for alternative tourism in the eastern Mediterranean.
- Highlighting the natural wealth of the areas of interest for the expected improvement of the image of PIN with the utilization of New Media (Internet, “smart” mobiles, multimedia, etc.).
- Organization of workshops, production of printed material and promotional publications for the dissemination of the results of the protection value of the biodiversity and the natural wealth of the Ionian Islands.
- Establishment and implementation of an integrated communication strategy, which aims to highlight the central role of Management Bodies in the management and protection of biodiversity in PIN, but also to strengthen the participatory process, either organized groups or ordinary citizens in their management and protection.
